Every one of us wishes to stay younger and healthier for a longer period of time. This might be a reality in the near future. A major landmark has been achieved to replace old cells in our body. The Research done by scientists at Caltech (California Institute of Technology) and ULCA (The University of California, Los Angeles) might have paved the way to developing Nip and tuck style procedures to reverse the process of aging.
They developed a method to over express certain genes in a way that triggers mitochondria to clear out, mutated genes. Mitochondria are a cell organelle considered as the ‘power house of the cell’. As we age, our DNA breaks down and mutates, but unlike other organelles mitochondria has very poor DNA repair system.
But now scientists have developed a way to mutate genes and in a way facilitate mitochondria to remove mutated DNA thereby regenerate cells. The operation is a wind on an officially archived regular strategy called Autophagy ('self-eating').
By Autophagy, cells will be able to replace dysfunctional mitochondria paving the way for healthy replacement of cells. For more information go to go to
