Aadhaar based BHIM App: Important Things to Know About This Digital Revolutionary App

Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a bid to move India towards cashless economy has today launched  Bharat Interface for money (BHIM)App. BHIM App is the modified version of UPI (Unified Payment Interface) & USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data).  The app is currently available for download in Google play for Android users. What is BHIM App?


BHIM app uses UPI and IMPS platforms to carry easy and quick payments. The app links your payment bank account and enables faster transactions. It is also advantageous than m-wallets and takes lesser time for transactions. The app also allows to make direct bank to bank payments and you can also collect money using the mobile number or payment address.

What are the requirements for BHIM usage?


In order, to use BHIM app you must have a smartphone with internet access, an Indian bank account that supports UPI payments and mobile number linked to bank account. The app lets you linK UPI with a bank account.

How to set up UPI pin?


To use BHIM app, you must set UPI pin. 
  • For this navigate to Main menu, Select Bank accounts, then select Set UPI-PIN for the selected account.
  • Next, you need to enter the last six digits of Debit/ATM card along with the expiry date.
  • Then you will receive One-time password(OTP) Which you have to enter and now you can set your UPI PIN. 
  • It must be noted that UPI PIN is different from MPIN provided by the bank for mobile banking

What Banks registered under BHIM app?


Supported banks are Allahabad Bank, Andhra Bank, Axis Bank, Bank of Baroda, Bank of India, Bank of Maharashtra, Canara Bank, Catholic Syrian Bank, Central Bank of India, DCB Bank, Dena Bank, Federal Bank, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, IDBI Bank, IDFC Bank, Indian Bank, Indian Overseas Bank, IndusInd Bank, Karnataka Bank, Karur Vysya Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Oriental Bank of Commerce, Punjab national Bank, RBL Bank, South Indian Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, State Bank of India, Syndicate Bank, Union Bank of India, United Bank of India, and Vijaya Bank.




Is it possible to link Multiple Bank accounts?


Currently, it is not possible to link multiple bank accounts in BHIM. It supports linking of one bank only. During account set up, you can link preferred bank account as the default account. It is possible to link another bank account. 

For this, navigate to the Main Menu, choose Bank Accounts and select your default account. Money transferred to your mobile number or payment address will be credited to the default account.

Any transaction charges are levied? 

At present, there are no charges levied for the transaction done through Bharat interface for money.
