Earlier in June, it was rumored that apple will introduce Dark mode in iOS 10. The dark mode improves the visibility in low light situations. However after the release of iOS 10 the feature missing in the version.
Now a new leak surfaced that hints that the dark mode may appear in iOS 10.3 Beta version. This was revealed in a series of tweets by sonny Dickson who wrote that iOS10.3 beta 1 is Scheduled to be Seeded to developers/Beta testers by January 10. He further tweeted iOS 10.3 will feature a new "theater mode" and will also include a new popcorn-shaped central icon.

When 9to 5 mac contacted Dickson for clarification he said that the source is reliable and has provided good information in the past. Also, he said that the theater mode could be the enhanced version of Dark mode. The code name given internally to theater mode is Erie.
Apple releases pre-release versions of iOS updates not only to Apple employees but also to carriers for prevalidation of iOS software. So we have to wait till Jan 10 to confirm the authenticity of the leak.
