Advantages and Disadvantages of Reliance Jio: Everything You Wanted to Know

Reliance Jio launched it's commercial services quite a few months back in September. There many things about Reliance Jio which is interesting anytime. Of course Jio itself is interesting.

Jio, as of December 2016 has 72 million subscriber base which will reach to 100 million in 2017 according to the report by JP Morgan. Jio is the most successful startup than Whatsapp or Facebook.

Here, I would like to focus on both the advantages and disadvantages of Reliance Jio. I would rather leave the drawbacks of Jio because they are personalized things.

Advantages

- Works Entirely on 4G network, Jio has wide 4G coverage like other telcos had for 2G and 3G network. So, we can forget to switch to 3G or 2G where we face network issues.

- Calls are made via VoLTE technology, which delivers superior/HD voice calls. Call drops on VoLTE are relatively less.
- Unlimited free calls and SMS. The calls and SMS are absolutely free for a lifetime once you opt for any of the data packs.

- Amazing speeds, all the time, especially once Jio launches the Happy New Year Offer.

- As a normal user, I find the Rs. 149/- pack most convenient, as many people have Wi-Fi at home and need data only whenever they go out of the house. Also, the pack comes with unlimited calling and SMS plus WIFI data

- Paying up to the Rs. 499/- for a pack also looks feasible too, 4GB of data is sufficient for when we go out on a trip to any place. Use Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter without any hitch.

- People that don’t use a Broadband or Fibernet connection at their home can go with higher packages of Jio. It’s very reasonable compared to the competitor telcos.

- Wide and Reliable connectivity, Jio people are always ready to take action if any area is reported to be facing network issues. A lot amount of money has been poured into the technology to cover most of India. They are expecting to have the best coverage by 2018. Reliance Jio have invested Rs 1.9 lakh crore on the network.
- Free outgoing and incoming calls even when roaming. You need to pay only for data.

- No additional charges for video calls without a VoIP client like Whatsapp, Skype, Google Hangouts or Facebook Video Calls. Data used for direct Video calls will be charged from the data pack.

- Very good tree-like cellular towers to not destroy the scenic beauty of mother earth.

- Tariff Plans are very simple without complexity. Except for data, no rate cutters for anything like voice calls or SMS.

- Additional discounts for will be offered for students and LYF handset users after March 2017.

- Reports are there that Reliance Jio is very soon launching VoLTE feature phones for Rs 999 and Rs 1500. Hence, we can use the top class network in cheaper price.

As do Advantages, Reliance Jio has the disadvantages. So, what are they

Disadvantages

- Free unlimited data during 2 am to 5 am. Reliance called it an Unlimited Night data. To use the service, one has to be asleep or wake up early. The timing is really annoying for any user. Reliance Jio might understand the problem and change the timing to 12 am.

- Completly 4G network. If your phone doesn't support VoLTE, you cannot use voice calls. Additionally, you have to download Jio Voice app to use voice calls. The data for this will be charged from your data pack.

- Paying for a data pack is a must to use free unlimited calling and SMS which would cost you Rs 149 per month which is the starter price.
- Interconnectivity issues with other telecom operators. This is not a serious problem as it is getting solved and connectivity issues are decreasing now. Still, we experience busy tone when calling in peak hours to many operators. The problem can be sorted out.
