The Idea is the latest player to enter into the aggressive price war to counter Reliance Jio and Airtel's schemes. According to sources, Idea may offer unlimited free data in various schemes and that may come with a validity of 1-1.5 years. Only 4G customers may be expected to benefit from this offer. This will further increase the price war in the telecom sector. Along with the scheme, Idea may offer free international incoming calls on down payment and also other loyalty plans for its customers.
Reliance Jio debuted into telecom space as a disruptive player and created ripples by announcing Jio Welcome offer that gave unlimited voice calls data and other services until December 31. It came as a big surprise for many as so far no other operator has come up with such an offer. However, the initial announcement had a little impact on rival telecom operators and as a result, only a few operators stepped in and announced recharge plans to counter Reliance Jio.
But on December 1, after Mukesh Ambani revealed the extension of free services for three months till March 31 as part of Jio Happy New year offer, then telecom operators started to come up with aggressive plans and benefits that offered unlimited calling and various data benefit to guard their consumer base.
Recently, Airtel announced 3GB 4G data offer to counter the effect of Reliance Jio. If you look at the earlier offers, Tata Docomo came up with RC148 and RC 246, Vodafone also launched unlimited calling packs. Anil Ambani-led Reliance communications also joined the list and launched RC149 plan. After Idea reveals the details we can expect other telecom operators to step in the price war.
