The government has rolled out 1 lakh technicians armed with 50,000 tablets with a single mission to tag 88 million cows and buffaloes across the country. The main objectives per  Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision is to tag and track cattle to vaccinate them on time and improve dairy production thereby doubling the income of dairy farmers by 2022.

The technicians will affix a polyurethane tag inside the ears of the cattle with a tag applicator. Once the process is done, the technician uploads the details in the tablet and gives owner animal health card with unique identification along with other details that include owners details deworming, vaccination period and breeding details.

The tag is yellow colored, and has to be fixed in the center of the earlobe with the help of a tool. The tag as said is tamper proof, lasts for many years and can be opened only with a wrench. According to officials, the Centre has set aside Rs.148 crore for procuring the tags, tag applicators, tablets and health cards.
