Uber launched a new website called Uber movement that gives transportation data, that cities may use to for efficient and reliable transport services.
In the website, you can find the amount of time taken to travel between destinations and in a way local government officials understand the effect of any major event on traffic that involves road closures. The website is open to public and anyone can request to access the data, although one of the intentions of the website seems to help city officials, planners, and policymakers to use that data to help improve urban mobility.
This information further helps to plan for the construction of buildings in areas keeping in view of the traffic situation. Currently, the information from Boston, Manila, Sydney and Washington DC is available and it will be extended to many cities in February.The website is in pipeline for the last 9 months with a team of 10 engineers, devoted themselves putting together all the information.
The new move by uber may seem to seek support from cities that in recent instances tried to ban or regulate Uber also wants to convey that apart from transportation they are also involved in providing valuable public service.
