Meet Cassie, the two-legged Robot developed by Agility Robotics that walks like a human, can be used in search and rescue operations

A team of engineers from Agility robotics of Oregon state university has unveiled a two-legged walking robot called CassieTwo-legged robots are very difficult to make as we have seen in the past many robots fail to maintain balance and fall over. This is where Cassie stands out in the crowd. Cassie is the successor to the previous robot ATRIAS developed by the some of the same roboticists at Oregon state university.

ATRIAS has been developed two years ago under DARPA funded project aimed to make robots more efficient. However, ATRIAS had few limitations wherein it was able to stand upright by shifting weight from foot to foot. Also, the model of ATRIAS is awkward. But Cassie although smaller is much more efficient as its motors offer a greater degree of freedom in the hip joints. As a result of which the robot is more steerable and has a higher range of motion.

Cassie offers additional motors that allow it to stand upright and comes with superior design compared with ATRIAS. It is also half the size of ATRIAS but much more powerful. The Robot also has the capability to walk on uneven terrain and is water resistantSo, Cassie being two-legged it can do any work as performed by humans. The creators believe that it can be deployed in dangerous search and rescue operation, it can also climb stairs or in package delivery.
