We still remember the victorious celebration we had when ISRO successfully completed the Mars mission in 2013. The total cost of the Mangalyan mission was put at $74m which made it cheapest ever interplanetary space mission and India could achieve it in the very first attempt. It is said that the cost of the mission is lesser than a Holywood science fiction movie made on the subject of sending a space flight to Mars.
As India is enjoying the success, New York Times newspaper carried a cartoon in an article titled India’s Budget Mission to Mars. The cartoon showed an Indian farmer along with a cow knocking at the door of a room marked Elite Space Club where two sit reading an article on India's Mars mission in a newspaper.
The cartoon witnessed severe criticism from the readers for which the editor had to apologize to the readers.
Just after three years, India made yet another world record by sending 104 satellites to place in the earth's orbit in one go. Ironically, 93 of the total satellites are from the US.
With the huge success of the mission, Indians countered by adding the second part to the NYT cartoon. The cartoon showed two Americans knocking the door marked elite space club where the India farmer is now the member, reading the news of the India's recent achievement.
