The findings of the researchers in a new study is not a good news for vegetarians. Researchers warn that fathers who stick to a strict vegetarian diet will lose the chance of having grandchildren as the father's diet could massively impact their children's fertility.
Animal products are rich sources of nutrients and proteins. Not consuming enough of these essential nutrients make their children's sperm lazy and less competitive.
Researchers from Monash University, Melbourne studied this on fruit flies where if the required proteins if skipped, the chances of the offspring to conceive will be relatively less.
Researchers found that males reared on high-protein diet had sons that fared better during sperm competition. On the other hand, Sons of fathers reared on low protein diet fared worse in sperm competition.

The immune system will be weaker in those people who consumed a diet low in protein according to the study published in Biology Letters. But the metabolic and reproductive processes would increase in sons of fathers on a high protein diet.
It is well-known fact that high-quality diet positively affects male sexual characters, fitness and subsequent female choice.
In another research by the researchers from Cornell University researchers found that vegetarian diet for a longer time can result in genetic mutations which increase the risk of heart disease and cancer.
Another research found that men who eat lots of soya may be harming their chances of becoming a father.
