You need not stand when National Anthem is played in films, says Supreme Court

Everyone are aware of screening National Anthem in the cinema theaters before the start of the film. Now, it is clarified by the Supreme court that audience need not stand when the National Anthem is played in the cinema theater as a part of the storyline of a film, newsreel or documentary as was seen in blockbuster Dangal recently.

The clarification has come from the Justices Dipak Misra and R Banumathi after one of the petitioners asked the apex court to clarify if the people have to stand when the National Anthem is played.

Supreme court on November 30, 2016 gave a ruling that National Anthem should be played before the screening of a movie and the audience must stand and show respect.

This order has come after a PIL filed by one Shyam Narayan Chouksey seeking directions from Supreme Court that the National Anthem must be played cinema halls across the country before a film begins.
