Xiaomi has been bullish on India over the $1 billion revenue it generated last year. Much of this can be attributed to the Redmi Note 3 phone which had been a huge success in India and China as well. Xiaomi claimed that it had sold over 2.5 million Note 3 handsets.
Xiaomi is well known for the budget smartphone segment and offers a rich design and decent specifications that are nowhere shorter than some high-end phones.
After tasting the success of Redmi Note 3, Xiaomi didn't take a long time to bring forth its next successor - Redmi Note 4 which is yet another budget segment killer.
To remain more budget friendly, Xiaomi continued the 2GB RAM + 32GB ROM variant at a price of Rs 9999/-. The high specced variant is the 4GB RAM + 64GB ROM which is priced at Rs 12,999/-. The median variant sports 3GB ROM + 32GB ROM and priced at Rs 10,999/-
Features upgraded over Redmi Note 3:
Aboveboard, not much have been upgraded over Redmi Note 3. The following are the features and specs that have been improved over Note 3
- Redmi Note 4 features 2.5D curved glass on the top which Note 3 lacks.
- Redmi Note 4 features the same candy bar form factor as the Note 3, but the edges are marginally beveled in the Note 4, which makes the Note 4 look different from the Note 3.
- On the processor front, it looks like Note 4 with Octacore SD 625 processor has the slight whip hand over Note 3 that features hexacore SD 650 processor. But from the inner angle, this is a downgrade largely due to the fact that the Snapdragon 650 has twin ARM Cortex A72 cores which are faster than the A53 cores found on the 625.
What does work for Redmi Note 4:
Redmi Note 4 has the all metal body just like the Note 3 that fits well in the hands perfectly. The speaker grills have been moved to the bottom in Note 4 unlike in Note 3, the speakers are placed on the back. This placement gave the more rich look to the Note 4.
The 4GB RAM version of Note 4 gave more capacity for the user to play more apps at a given time. The 5.5 inch full-HD IPS display with 401 ppi is decent enough to watch movies at the highest brightness for a longer time.
The SD 625 Octacore processor gives more strength to play high-end games like Asphalt 8 and a good multi-tasking experience.
The battery is non-removable and has a slightest upgraded capacity of 4100mAh over the Note 3 that has 4050mAh.
The 13MP rear camera with dual-tone LED flash is a downgraded feature over Note 3 that has the 16MP rear camera. But during the launch, Hugo Barra claimed that megapixel count doesn’t matter in a smartphone but It all depends on the sensor used on the phone. This has been true for Note 4 as it gave some decent photography over Note 3.
