Here's How To Link Your Pan With Aadhaar Number Online; Remember Your Pan Will Be Invalid From July 1st If You Fail To Link With Aadhaar

Now, Government has made it mandatory to link one's Aadhaar and PAN number and this has been the source of many glitches due to the reason that the names in Aadhaar and PAN card are spelled differently. This problem arises due to many other ways; a difference in the first name placement is one of the reasons, a special character may also disallow the linking.

In any of the above cases, you have to request for corrections either on PAN or Aadhaar and both are time-consuming procedures. For such cases, the government has come up with a solution to provide hassle-free linking

What if the name on PAN and Aadhaar do not match:

If the name on PAN and Aadhaar do not match, the person can simply upload the scanned copy of PAN to get the work done.

In addition, a person can request for name correction via UIDAI website by using the registered mobile number to which OTP will be generated.

OTP is used in many cases where there are people who have married and changed their surname in many cases of females. In such cases, the tax department will give an OTP option wherein the password will be sent to the Aadhaar-registered mobile number. The tax department would then match the year of birth of the taxpayer with the Aadhaar database.
Here's how to link your PAN with Aadhaar number online; Remember your PAN will be invalid from July 1st if do not link with Aadhaar

How to link your PAN with Aadhaar:

You can follow few easy steps to link your PAN with Aadhaar -
- Login to https://onlineservices.tin.egov-nsdl.com/Aadhaar_Seeding/
- Enter your PAN number and Aadhaar number in the fields mentioned and submit
- Your details will be verified and linked in 2-3 working days

The tax department is also planning to introduce an option on the e-filing portal through which taxpayers can choose to link the Aadhaar without changing the name by opting for OTP, provided that the year of birth of the person matches in both documents.
The tax department will start educating taxpayers from this week through media outreach on ways to link the PAN with Aadhaar, an official told news agency Press Trust of India.

Over 1.08 crore assessees have already linked Aadhaar and PAN, but the number is a bit low as there are over 25 crore PAN card holders in India, while the Aadhaar has been issued to 111 crore people. As per statistics with the tax department, only six crore people of the 25 crore PAN holders file income tax returns at present.
