Alipay introduces facial recognition payment system at KFC in China that let you pay with your face

Now, it is simpler paying for food at KFC. With the new level of payment service introduced, you can forget cards, cash or a smartphone to pay bills.

Unveiled on Friday, this new technology uses facial recognition to settle the bill. Ant Financial, the subsidiary company of the Chinese e-commerce giant, Alibaba launched this innovative technology in China and the customers of KPro (China brand of KFC) can utilize this service.

Customers can place the order in KPro and scan their face for the payment process to take place. If the face matches the photo ID stored in the system, the customer has to enter his/her mobile number to complete the payment. And of course, the food will be delivered by a human.

This new system works through the Digital payment system, Alipay which has over a half billion customers in China.

Ant Financial says that the system is secure and it uses and examines more than 600 facial features to make a match, and uses a 3D camera and a “liveness” protocol to make sure people are not striving to fool it with images or videos of others.

Similar kind of technology is used by another Chinese tech giant, Baidu to let tourists pay using the facial recognition in the restaurants.

Google warned in 2011 that they had a scrapped software which let the smartphone users snap a person's face to find who he/she is.

The Chinese government is combining the data of facial recognition technology with the survelliance cameras to monitor citizens.

Interestingly, face scanners have been installed into the toilet stalls at one of the popular banks in China. This is done to abate the use of toilet papers by people.
