BSNL to relaunch 'truly unlimited' 3G STV 498 on Republic Day along with other new unlimited packs

State-run telecom operator, BSNL announced that it is re-launching the truly unlimited 3G pack STV 498 again on the occasion of Republic Day.

BSNL has discontinued the Rs 498 pack after one month of launch in December 2016. The pack comes with a validity of 14 days and offer truly unlimited 3G data without any capping on speed or data limit. During that time, BSNL also launched STV 1099 to offer truly unlimited 3G data and unlimited BSNL to BSNL calling for a period of 28 days.

BSNL said that the two data packs offered by BSNL are the only truly unlimited data packs offered by any operator.

BSNL's idea to re-launch these truly unlimited data packs comes after Vodafone IN launching the unlimited data pack for Rs 16 for one hour. Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular too slashed the data prices up to 66% to counter attack Reliance Jio free offering.

BSNL CMD Anupam Shrivastava also said that BSNL will also launch other unlimited packs and plans which are valid for one or two days on the eve of Republic Day.

He also added that BSNL is launching its maiden 4G services in next financial year that is commencing from April 2017. BSNL, Bharti Airtel, and Reliance Jio had acquired the 4G spectrum in 2010 during the auction conducted by TRAI. Later BSNL surrendered the spectrum of Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamilnadu and Kolkata in 2014 due to the cash crisis.

Bharti Airtel launched the 4G in 2011 and is the pan India operator. Later, Reliance Jio commercially launched 4G in September 2016.
