Galaxy S8 and iPhone 8 to feature highest level water resistance with the IP68 rating

Samsung Galaxy S8 and iPhone 8 are the most anticipated phones of 2017. These phones are reported to feature the highest level of dust and water resistance till date.

As of today, Samsung Galaxy S7 has the highest level of dust and water resistance with the IP68 rating. IP68 rating refers to the highest level of weather protection that tolerates submersion for 30 mins in 1.5 meters of water.

In contrast, Apple iPhone 7 has the IP67 rating which can tolerate for 30 mins in 1 meter of water.

3M produces water-resistant tapes for Apple

Apple iPhone and Samsung Galaxy S8 are reported to come with the IP68 rating which offers the highest level of resistance to weather. Apple marks this technology for its 10th Anniversary of iPhone this year.

Samsung has also extended this technology to other low-end phones like  A3, A5, and A7 phones and is even considering for its J series phones.

LG Electronics showcased its mid-range phone Xcaliber in the recent Consumer Electronics show with the IP68 rating. Its flagship device LG G6 is also rumored to come with waterproof technology. LG G6 will be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress this year.

What makes Samsung and Apple different is that they use waterproof tapes for their devices. Compared to adhesives, tapes make repair works easier.


US material company 3M and Korea Film manufacturer NDFOS supply waterproof tapes to Apple and Samsung
