Reserve Bank of India has made it free to get Free Full Credit Report (FFCR) or Credit Information Report (CIR) once a calendar year and have issued guidelines to all credit information agencies in the country to offer the same for free. This rule has come effectively from January 1, 2017.
Companies that offer Credit Information Report
There are four companies in India that offer the service for free. They are
1) CRIF High Mark Credit Information Services Pvt. Ltd
2) Transunion CIBIL Ltd
3) Equifax Credit Information Services Pvt. Ltd
4) Experian Credit Information Co. of India Pvt. Ltd
The trick here lies is that you can actually get four Credit Information Reports free from the above four agencies. The agencies have no common database to track the PAN numbers. Hence, you can get the free reports from all the above four agencies in one calendar year.
Before getting into the actual process of getting the free Credit Information Report, let understand the term Credit Information Report in detail.

What is Credit Information Report (CIR)
The CIR Score help loan providers identify customers who are likely to be able to pay back their loans. An individual with a credit score above 750 has better bargaining power with the loan lenders since he is perceived as a responsible borrower. Whenever you apply for a loan, the lender asks the credit bureau (CIBIL) to verify if your earlier dues are paid on right time. This forms your overall credit history and the same will reflect in your CIR. 79% of the loans are approved for individuals with the score more than 750.
How CIBIL generates the information?
CIBIL collects and maintains records of individuals’ and companies’ loans and credit cards. These records are submitted monthly to CIBIL by its members (banks and other financial institutions). This information is then used to create the CIR and the CIBIL Score (a 3-digit summary of your credit history) which are provided to lenders to help evaluate loan applications.
What information does your CIR contain?
The CIR is a month-on-month record of your loan-related EMI payments and/ or credit card payments. It does not include your investment or savings details. Loans include home loans, personal loans, automobile loans and overdraft facilities. Other details include,
a) Personal information such as your name, date of birth, address and identification numbers like PAN, passport number, voters number and telephone number as reported by member banks and credit institutions.
b) Account information such as the type of credit availed (various loans, credit card etc), the size of loan/ credit card limit, outstanding current balance, overdue amount, the number of days a payment is overdue, status (written off/ settled), etc.
c) The number of ‘Enquiries’ made by banks about your credit profile- An “Enquiry” is created on your CIR every time the lender requests CIBIL for your CIR (this usually happens when a consumer applies for credit).
