Samsung to sell refurbished Galaxy Note 7 phones with lower battery capacity in India and Vietnam to recover losses: Report

The refurbished Galaxy Note 7 will have the core parts intact but will witness a reduction in battery capacity. The refurbished phone will be powered by a lower capacity battery that may range between 3000 and 3200 mAH from the earlier 3500 mAh that faced the battery explosions. Also, the refurbished phones will sport a new case.

Samsung Electronics has sold 3.16 million Galaxy Note 7 units and recovered 98% of the sold units so far to find out the cause of battery fires. Samsung expects there are still 2.5 million units left in the inventory.
According to the source, Samsung has already begun the work and the divisions involved will complete the refurbishing of the phones by May. The phones will be available for purchase from June and will be sold in emerging market such as India and Vietnam.

Also, Samsung Electronics may sell the refurbished phones domestically in South Korea in partnership with local telecommunication companies. This in a way also helps Samsung to avoid penalties, as South Korean Ministry of the environment has earlier warned to levy a fine on Samsung if the Note 7 units are not disposed of properly.
