Singapore Achieves 35Gbps Speed in 5G Trials; Gearing up to Commercialize in 2020

Singapore Telecom company M1 communications reported that it has achieved 35Gbps speed during a trial of 5G technology conducted in cooperation with Chinese technology giant Huawei.

This is the lab trial conducted at M1's operating center in Singapore using millimeter wave (mmWave) spectrum in the 73GHz E-band. M1 and Huawei have been working on 4G network for many years and reported that they have achieved 1Gbps of download speed and 130Mbps of upload speed on 4G technology.

5g“Singapore’s mobile networks are seen as the most advanced technology worldwide, and M1 stays ahead in 5G technology and ensure that consumers enjoy the best experience and latest smart apps,” said Mr Denis Seek, Chief Technical Officer, M1.

Along with great speeds, users will be able to download a 1080p movie in microseconds. 5G technology will support low-latency connections critical to driving the next gen of virtual or augmented reality and Internet of Things (IoT) applications such as autonomous driving.

M1 is gearing up to commercialize the 5G in 2020. Huawei also achieved 35Gbps speed in Australia last November during a 5G trial with Australian telecommunications provider Optus.
