Mobile world congress is the largest event for global mobile industry that is being attended by more than 1 lakh attendees. Many companies gear up for the event and use it as a platform to showcase their latest gadgets at the event. During the last event in 2015, the then head of International Hugo Barra unveiled flagship phone Mi5.

Barra has recently moved out of Xiaomi to lead Facebook's Virtual Reality(VR) division. So, many thought it may be the reason for Xiaomi to skip the event, but it is learned that Xiaomi does not have any new devices to be launched at the event. Earlier, Xiaomi has attended the Consumer Electronic Show (CES) in Las vegas where it unveiled a new router and a modular design MiTV4
