Elon Musk's Rocket company Space X has successfully launched a Dragon spacecraft that is traveling to International space station. The Dragon spacecraft is carrying 5,500 pounds of supplies for astronauts who are currently in International space station. Although the weather was cloudy at the time of launch the company went ahead with the mission.
Space X Falcon 9 rocket was launched at 9:39 a.m. EST from the historic NASA launch pad at the Kennedy Space Center Lunch complex 39A in Florida. This launch pad was historic as it was built for Apollo 11 mission used by NASA to send first humans to the moon back in 1969. Recently in 2011 space shuttle was launched from this complex.
After the launch of the rocket the first stage was separated the rocket turned around and successfully landed at the launch pad of the nearby Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. It was the eight successful landing for the company Space X.
The second stage of the rocket got separated from the first stage exactly two and half minutes after the launch. While the first stage, returned to earth the second stage proceeded with the Dragon spacecraft carrying cargo to International space station.
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), has hired Space X to fly cargo to the station after the shuttle program ended, was closely monitoring the launch to learn more about the company's operations before it clears the company to fly NASA astronauts on Space X rockets.
