Apple has now officially listed under the wireless power consortium website where it is listed as a member of the organization. This further lends support to the rumors wherein iPhone 8 is speculated to feature wireless charging.
Earlier this week a rumor surfaced wherein it said iPhone 8 to include wireless charging the accessory will be sold separately. Apple is now listed as one of the 200 members of wireless charging consortium.Apple will join the likes of Samsung, LG, HTC, Qualcomm, Verizon, Convenient Power, Aircharge, Dell, Canon, Sony, ST Microelectronics, Toshiba, Texas Instruments, Philips, Panasonic, Bosch, Nokia, and Huawei.
The wireless power consortium is committed to the open development of Qi wireless charging standard that uses inductive power transfers to charge without chords. The Qi wireless charging standard is being used by more than 200 companies from smartphones to cordless kitchen appliances. Qi is capable of scaling from is equipped for scaling from under 1 watt to more than 2,000 watts of power and thus makes the standard more than enough for charging any smartphone.

Apple is earlier rumored to be working on technology that facilitates wireless charging over the air instead of placing on charging pad. If you look at the other rumors that surfaced it is said that Apple will release three models in 2017 among which one model would be the flagship phone i.e iPhone 8. The new iPhone 8 is rumored to sport curved OLED plastic display. In one of the rumors iPhone 8 to feature the highest level of dust and water resistance with IP 68 rating
According to the recent rumor, it said iPhone 8 to sport Lumentum-sourced 3D sensor, physical buttons to be replaced by touch buttons.The rumor also supported the OLED display as reported previously. In addition, it added the new iPhone 8 to be priced above $1000.
