A major boost is set to come for Reliance Jio if TRAI's decision to de-link call tariff from that of interconnect usage charge (IUC) gets materialized according to a report by ET Now.
The origin telecom operator has to pay 14 paise as interconnect charges to the operator who receives the call. Regarding the same, TRAI is considering to release a notification allowing service providers to charge lower than 14 paise in a way to allow a lower tariff to consumers.
The decision from TRAI is a big boost for Reliance Jio as it offers free unlimited calls to any network for the lifetime. Reliance Jio is facing interconnect issues from the existing players like Airtel, Vodafone despite paying a huge sum as interconnect charges.
The existing telecom players - Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular, Vodafone are already opposing the TRAI's decision as it more favors new players than the existing players.
