"Gaming Disorder" is a mental health condition classified by World Health Organisation (WHO) for the very first time. At 11th International Classification of Diseases (ICD), WHO will let in the gaming addition as the mental health condition in the draft document as the form of persistent gaming behavior that is more prioritized over other interests of life.
Countries like UK and others have already viewed gaming addiction as a public health issue. These countries also have clinics to address the addiction issues of such people.
South Korea laid stringent laws against children under age of 18 years for accessing online games between midnight and 6 am.
After 1992, World Health Organisation (WHO) is going to update its list with this new addition this year. Based on the severity, the condition can be decided within a year of witnessing the abnormal gaming behavior in an individual. The symptoms include increased priority given to gaming, duration of gaming, lacking control, etc.
WHO defines the gaming disorder as
“Persistent or recurrent behavior pattern of sufficient severity to result in significant impairment in personal, family, social, educational, occupational or other important areas of functioning”.
