Jan Dhan account holders withdrew Rs 3,285 crore in last fortnight

A whopping Rs 3,285 crore was withdrawn from  Jan Dhan accounts in the last fortnight. post demonetisation, black money hoarders turned their attention to Jandhan accounts and deposited large chunks of money that saw a huge surge in deposits in November. According to data from Finance Ministry, total deposits reached a record high of Rs 74,610 crore for the week ended December 7 and from there on,  it started gradual decrease to close at Rs 71,037 crore on December 28.

In the last fortnight, the total deposit came down by Rs 3,285 crore. The government has earlier kept the monthly upper withdrawal limit at Rs 10,000  from November 30. They also announced the implementation of strict measures, to prevent the misuse of Jan Dhan accounts.
The upper limit for deposits in Jan Dhan account is Rs 50,000. The balance in about 25.5 crore Jan Dhan accounts as of November 9 was Rs 45,636.61 crore.
Total deposits in Jan Dhan accounts surged by around Rs 28,973 crore in about a month after the announcement of demonetization post-November 8 midnight.


Despite the surge in deposits currently, the percentage of zero balance account still remains at about 24.13 percent.
In the list of states with most deposits in Jan Dhan accounts, Uttar Pradesh Stood first followed by West Bengal and Rajasthan.
